You’ll Soon Be Able To Hear Samuel L. Jackson As Amazon’s Alexa

Alexa users, are you ready for your virtual assistant to start ranting about “these motherf*cking snakes on this motherf*cking plane”? Because pretty soon, Amazon will be rolling out the option for Alexa devices to take on the voice of their favorite celebrities. Samuel L. Jackson will be the first one available as part of their next upgrade.

The use of neural text-to-speech technology allows Amazon to mimic celebrities’ voices and lend it to users’ Alexa devices. Through this, Jackson will be able to “tell you jokes, let you know if it’s raining, set timers and alarms, play music and more — all with a bit of his own personality.” What it means by personality is that the voice will come in two versions: explicit and non-explicit. But who’s really going to be using a censored version of Samuel L. Jackson’s voice?

Other updates for Alexa include a “deep learning model” which allows it to understand vocal inflections. This means Alexa will be able to tell your mood from the way your tone changes. However, this update comes after the addition of celebrity personalities.

It has not yet been announced which other celebrities will be lending their voice to Alexa.
