As Trans-woman Gretchen Custodio Diez was violently removed from the women’s toilets, handcuffed and arrested over unjust vexation charges, the topic of passing the SOGIE bill has been a trending topic amongst netizens.

In recent news, the janitress has reportedly apologized regarding her actions and has backed out from filing the case against Gretchen.

With this, Senator Hontiveros has appealed to the Senate on passing the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill on which she is the author of.

Whether you’ve heard it from family or friends or somewhere around Social Media, it’s not a long shot somebody has given this statement. The Senator talks about how loving a friend who belongs to the LGBT community means wanting them to enjoy the same rights as we do.

She tweeted: “I love my LGBT friends, but…” No, mahal. If we really love them, we’d fight that they enjoy the same rights as we do. We’d educate ourselves about their struggles. We’d use our straight privilege to dismantle an old system that oppresses them,” followed by a fist to the air emoji and purple heart emoji.

Hontiveros has refiled the bill in the 18th Congress.

While the SOGIE bill is still experiencing much controversy, Hontiveros has tweeted her opinion on this matter on September 4:
