Disney has found its Ariel for Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’

Disney’s live-action ‘Little Mermaid’ is in the works and Halle Bailey, a 19-year-old R&B singer of Chloe x Halle, was chosen to play Ariel. If you are not familiar with Halle yet, she and her sister, Chloe, actually caught the attention of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Beyoncé, in 2015.

The sisters were even given the opportunity to perform as an opening act for Beyoncé for The Formation World Tour in Europe.

The film’s director, Rob Marshall, sees all the qualities of Disney’s Ariel and her singing voice definitely adds to the character she will be portraying.

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” Marshall shared in a statement.

The film is produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It will be featuring the 1989 animated classic’s iconic songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, also some new songs by Menken and Miranda.
Aside from Bailey, other performers starring in the film are reportedly Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay and Melissa McCarthy.
The shooting for The Little Mermaid is expected to start in early 2020.
