A Simple Skincare Routine For The Dudes

As Nadine Lustre once said, “Come on, guys, it’s [2018].” The new year means it’s time to introduce some changes, and for some guys, this could also mean an improvement to your skincare routine!

Now, you might say, “What skincare routine?” with confusion and dread, but that’s why we’re here to help! It’s not just girls who ought to take care of their skin, especially if you’re acne-prone. Taking care of one’s physical appearance and hygiene chooses no gender, after all, and the idea that a skincare regimen that goes beyond soap is girly is so outdated. Why wouldn’t you choose to have clear, fresh, and healthy skin, after all? Plus, skin cancer is a thing — and one that anyone can be susceptible to, even you, my manly dude.

Here, we’re sharing with you a simple skincare routine (no 10-step Korean regimen needed!) that should already bring wonders to your face.

Go for a gentle cleanser that does the job.

You don’t need a fancy facial wash to make sure you’re cleaning your face as intended — all you need is a gentle cleanser that does the job. A mild cleanser is able to wash off the dirt and excess oil you’ve accumulated throughout the day, without stripping your face of its natural oils. An overly dry face can lead to irritation, even more oiliness, and breakouts.

Use a toner.

Next, after cleansing, use a toner, which is meant to restore your skin’s moisture that has been lost after washing your face. Depending on your skin needs, your toner can also address other skin issues such as acne.

Don’t forget to moisturize.

Moisturizing has such a feminine connotation, but listen to us — moisturizing prevents wrinkles and can help alleviate existing problems such as acne. You don’t have to go for the heavy creams — hydrating gels are light and non-sticky — but do look for one that suits your skin type.

Protect your skin.

Sunscreen isn’t just for the beach — every day when we’re outdoors, our skin is constantly exposed to the sun’s UV rays, which leads to premature aging, with wrinkles, freckles, and other blemish marks. Also, being exposed to the UV rays unprotected could possibly lead to skin cancer, so it’s best to lather up on the sunblock.
