Lia’s Cakes in Season: The Story Behind the First Avocado Cake
If you’ve once had a bite of Lia’s best-selling avocado cake, then you have all the right to puff out your chest and say, “I know what true legacy tastes like.”
From crude beginnings down to the hardships of building up a business, Carlo Carlos, owner of Lia’s Cakes in Season, has experienced it all. Before putting up his now successful business, Carlo had absolutely no idea what he wanted to do in life. Coming from a family of doctors, it was hard for him not to take the same route, but he did anyway. He first tried taking up Business Administration in college. Unfortunately, he failed on his first try.
This put him back to where he started, “the state of cluelessness”, as he liked to say. Seeing his natural flair for buying and selling things, his cousin then recommended for him to try his hand at doing business and take up a business course. Carlo followed his advice and took up Entrepreneurial Management. Then, from his thesis came the early conceptualization of Lia’s Cakes in Season. Little did he know then that he would have a successful business in a few years’ time.
Carlo centered his idea on his Lola Pi’s original recipe of avocado cake. He also had lots of help from his mom and the business’ namesake, Lia. The original avocado cake recipe has been known within the family since the 1960’s and was then developed by Carlo’s mom who also helped perfect the other cake recipes. Finally, in 2004, Carlo established Lia’s Cakes in Season.
The cake was decorated by one of the bakers to recreate how the famous avocado cake looked before it was sold to the public
Carlo didn’t stop there, either. To further cultivate his business, he had to perfect his skills in baking by studying and practicing the art. Since he already had a naturally creative hand, it was easy for him to learn the different ways of decorating cakes, which came plenty handy whenever clients would ask for custom-made cakes. He prided himself on being able to make beautiful yet flavorful and preservative-free cakes.
Like most businesses, Lia’s Cakes in Season had a shaky beginning. Its unique avocado cake was so unheard of before that people were hesitant to try it at first. Now, however, the shop’s whole line of avocado-flavored goodies accounts for 70% of their total sales. In fact, the recipe is so brilliant and the cake tastes so good that others have even tried copying the recipe and selling their own versions of it.
Now, many features and a decade later, they have hit a milestone and will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this December. Customers and fans of the avocado cake can expect a great deal of new things coming their way.
Lia’s Cakes in Season urges you to try their line of delicious Avocado products:
Their best-selling piece: The Avocado Cake

Lia’s Cakes in Season is also known for its other cakes baked with different fruits. These cakes are made with 100% fresh fruits and you can really taste the flavor of the fruits in every bite.
Their own version of Mango Cheesecake is truly delectable. The passionfruit seeds sprinkled over the top add a slight crunch to every bite and make for a fun dessert experience.
A slice of Calamansi Tea cake
For most people, calamansi and tea combined is not something unheard of, but add these two to a cake recipe and you’ll get raised eyebrows. Like the avocado cake, the Calamansi Tea Cake is something that seems quite unconventional at first. Try it, though, and you might end up liking it, too!
A cake that will make you go B-A-N-A-N-A-S: The Banana Caramel cake!
Aside from their delicious cakes, they also have savory meals for those who are looking for more options. If you choose to order one of the savory meals that they offer, you will also be served with a slice of cake for free!
The man behind the delicious idea: The owner and entrepreneur, Carlo Carlos.
I don’t think I’ll forget the uniquely sweet aroma of the avocado cake anytime soon. It’s a cake unlike anything I’ve ever had! Give Lia’s Cakes in Season a visit and have a one-of-a-kind dessert experience, too.
