On January 28 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, we said bonjour to a new Miss Universe: Iris Mittineare of France was crowned as Pia Wurtzbach’s successor!
As 1994 Miss Universe said, winning the crown in Manila means one thing: being the subject of adoration by the Filipinos. Especially fitting as she follows in the footsteps of one of our own, and because we just love beauty pageants!
Here’s hoping that Iris considers the Philippines as a second home as we get ready to welcome a new celebrity in our midst. Listed here are five facts about our new Miss Universe:
5. Iris is the second Miss France to win Miss Universe.
Iris’ win comes 64 years after the first Miss France won the competition — Christiane Martel was crowned as Miss Universe in 1953.

Not surprising as Iris is a fifth-year Dental Surgery student, and will be a full-fledged dentist in two years.
