20 Nostalgic Songs That Will Turn 20 This Year

Wow, these songs felt like they were just released yesterday!

“Oldies but goodies” – that’s how I’d describe the songs of the 90s.

One of the highlights of 2016 was when TLC and SWV came down to the Philippines to give a one-night show only at Araneta Coliseum! Their show was packed and we were privileged to hear our favorite songs like No Scrubs, Right Here, Waterfalls, live!

The phenomenal Sisters With Voices, the band behind the hit songs Weak and Right Here.

So, just to give you more hits from the 90s, strap on your seatbelts while I take you down memory lane. These songs will turn 20 this year!

Pop Rock / Alternative

20. Semi- Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind

One of my favorite bands, Third Eye Blind, made noise as well during the 90s. The Semi-Charmed Life was released June 1997. It was a major hit during the 1990s and landed in the 34th spot in the Top 40 Video Hits 1 or VH1 countdown.

19. Bitter Sweet Symphony – The Verve

Popularly known to be one of the songs from the movie, Cruel Intentions starring Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe. Bittersweet Symphony was released June 1997.

18. Sex and Candy – Marcy Playground

This song was released November 1997 and has received a Billboard Music Award for Modern Rock Track of the Year.

17. Tubthumping – Chumbawamba

The British band made noise as well in the 90s. The band also captured the hearts of the Filipinos because of their lively and interesting beat. The song was also released sometime 1997. (Source: Musika &TV YouTube Channel)

16. Push – Matchbox Twenty

Another throwback tune of the 90s.  It was released May of 1997 and the song was one of the best songs from their album Yourself or Someone like You.

15. How’s It Going To Be – Third Eye Blind

Released sometime November 1997 as the second single from their self-titled album, Third Eye Blind.  This band is one of my favorite bands and has been on my playlist, regardless, if Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse songs are there. 🙂

14. Barely Breathing – Duncan Sheik

Definitely a flashback of memories every time I hear this song. 🙂 Duncan Sheik released this single from his self-titled album in November of 1996. This song earned a Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance category in 1998.  Duncan Sheik also received a BMI Award for Most Played Song of the Year in 1997.

13. Stand by me – Oasis

Oasis is one my favorite alternative bands. This song was released sometime 1997.

12. Mo Money Mo Problems – The Notorious B.I.G.

The song was released July 15, 1997. 20 years after, this song released by The Notorious B.I.G. still rockin’ the clubs and continues to give us a nostalgic feeling. The song features vocals from Mase and P. Diddy, as well as, mixed with the classic song like Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out.”

11. You Make Me Wanna – Usher

The song was released August 1997.

10. 4 Seasons of Loneliness – Boyz II Men

Recorded and released sometime 1997, according to Wikipedia.
