The 10th Toys & Hobbies Convention (TAGCOM), The two-day convention at SM Megamall’s Megatrade Hall 3, was full games, contest, and a whole lotta toys. In my view, the 10th TAGCOM was one ‘geeked out’ weekend for myself and everyone who attended. Here’s our recap of Gathering: The 10th TAGCOM!
K-Pop Crazy!
TAGCOM Day 1 can be summed up as the day for K-Pop fans. The first day featured a couple of K-POP related contests such as “Your face sounds KPOP” (K-Pop Solo Cosplay Contest) and a “K-POP Group Dance Contest”. The audience went wild as they watched their fellow K-Pop enthusiasts cosplay as one of their favorite K-POP idols or sing and dance to their favorite K-Pop jams.
Spider-Man drops by and takes a picture with Justice Ph on stage
Heroes of Justice (Ph)
The 10th TAGCOM had a big serving of JUSTICE!
Bad puns aside, Justice Ph arrived at TAGCOM during day 1 and went on stage. The organizers noted that they were celebrating their 6th year as a cosplay group and were awarded with a certificate of recognition. The Justice Ph members gave the audience a brief background of their cosplay group and their stand regarding a recent story within the cosplay community. Justice Ph capped off with a playful group selfie (or ‘groufie’) with their friend who was cosplaying as Spider-Man.
Cosplay and APEC…APEK Contest Epicness
The Cosplay Competition was one of the main highlights of the 10th TAGCOM. A lot of cosplayers entered the contest to strut their stuff about the character that they were portraying. We saw a very impressive BvS Batman cosplay during the competition, complete with ‘battle damage’ version.
The cosplay contest panel (L to R: Aien, Hana, Baozi, and Hiro)
The panel of judges featured famous cosplayers Baozi & Hana, Hiro, and Aien. The audience were both in entertained and in awe with the cosplay contestants and their on-stage performances.
“The Real MVP” of the APEK Contest = Gavan Dude
The Asia Pacific Enthusiasts Karaoke, or “APEK” in short (get it?),ย is the karaoke contest where one can sing any song within the Asia Pacific (J-POP, K-POP, etc). The contestants sang some familiar anime tunes, and for some (including this writer), it was a trip down memory lane. It was the epic performance of the man in purple that really got most of the audience into the contest. The man sang the theme song of Space Sheriff Gavan with much gusto that really got me and the rest rooting for him. Mr. Gavan Singer Guy…you’re the real MVP!!!
