It’s not clear in this photo, but it is said that trees can be seen growing through some of the apartment windows of the Waldspirale in Germany. The architect Austrian Friedensreich Hundertwasser said, “If man walks in nature’s midst, then he is nature’s guest and must learn to behave as a well-brought-up guest.”

Built sometime between the late 60s to the mid-70s, this idea of putting pocket gardens on top of a cluster of houses was way ahead of its time. Built by French architect Jean Renaudie, this social housing still stands beautiful and proud today along Ivry Sur Seine in Paris.

Apparently, Norwegians have been doing the green roof practice for hundreds of years now. This one is my personal favorite. I wonder where the trees’ roots are, though.

Centuries ago, the people of Iceland put turf on their houses to protect them from extreme weather conditions. The Hofskirkja Church is said to be Iceland’s last church with turf on the roof.

Our very own DENR, MMDA, LTFRB and LTO should get an idea from these photokinetic buses of Girona, Spain. I think this would also be awesome for container trucks.
