The James Bond Suit: Italian Quality Tailored Suits in Manila at Tiño Suits and Barongs
When In Manila, I walked in saying I wanted to look just like James Bond! They looked at me and said their Master Cutter made suits for James Bond!
Ever since I’ve moved back to Manila, I’ve been searching for a place that could provide me with world class suits that I could show off no matter what secret 007 type mission I get sent on. I mean if you’re going to be anything like James Bond then you can’t save the world in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt! I mean how would all the girls fall for you while you ruin the diabolic plans of some evil genius?!
It took a lot of trials (I have a closet with a bunch of suits I never ever ever plan on touching again) but I think I’ve finally found the place to get that high quality, Italian style tailored suit! This place is called “Tiño Suits and Barongs” and you can find it in Makati very close to Greenbelt 1.
Tiño is a Spanish word that means “Sureness of Touch.”
Tiño just opened their doors in 2012, but they’re no newbie to the industry. Their Master Cutter, Napoleon Arienza, studied in Italy and has been in specializing in custom made suits for over 20 years. Furthermore, he’s been in the tailoring business for over 30 years. Before opening the store, Tiño tailored to prominent businessmen, politicians and more though personal house calls. “Tiño” was actually the exclusive tailor of President Joseph Estrada during his term in office, and was also cutting suits for Bong Bong Marcos, Ping Lacson, the Araneta family and more.
Moreover, Master Cutter Arienza also worked with “Brioni” suits” which is a very high end brand known to have dressed Bond, James Bond himself!
Upon entering the store, you’ll already get that immediate sense of class, sophistication and quality.
Suits can be ready in about a week. This would include a first and second fitting.
Here I am doing my first fitting. This happened about three days after they took my measurements.
What makes Tiño suits different is the Italian craftsmanship that their Master Cutter learned directly from Italy. One of their secrets is that they do not use any paste or glue on their suits as this often leaves the suits stiff and non-conforming to your body. At Tiño, everything it hand stitched to perfection according to your body type. They say that the suit should conform to you, and not the other way around.
I couldn’t wait for my suit to actually be finished! I chose the basic power black suit as I felt the black suit is one of the most important pieces of attire that you need in your closet.
A few days later, I got the call. It was ready!
All I can say is that I am a VERY happy customer! The suit flowed ever so gracefully as it took on the shape perfect to me. The quality of the tailoring, the materials used and the overall look was perfect.
Now I was ready to save the world and rescue the damsels in distress. I just needed a code name now… was 007.5 taken yet?
As far as prices go. Tiño is actually a little bit more affordable than other high end custom tailors, but is also slightly above the price range of the lower quality places. In a nutshell it was high end expensive suits at a more affordable price.
You can get a ready to wear suit for P18,000 ($450 US Dollars) and that already includes the alterations to make that RTW better fitting. On the other hand custom made or tailored suits can range from P23,000 and go upwards of P100,000 for their Italian fabrics.
