Sofitel Manila Half-Marathon: Run for the Benefit of the Virlanie Foundation

When In Manila, you probably have a friend or two who loves running. Heck, you might be part of a running group yourself. Whether you admit it or not, running has grown to be one of the favorite past times and sporting activities of Filipinos. Why wouldn’t it be? Not only is it affordable, but it allows you to travel to places and appreciate the view while losing weight. Right?

I’ve personally joined hundreds of runs since I started my healthy lifestyle, and one of those I often look forward to are those held by Sofitel Manila. Sofitel Manila has had a total of 4 runs since 2008, 2 of which took place last year dubbed Battle of the Sexes were organized for the benefit of the Virlanie Foundation. This year, they’ve decided to hold one big run with distances of 5k, 10k and 21k in hopes of being able to continuously support the said foundation.

“The Sofitel Manila Half Marathon aims to be at par with other international marathons such as the Boston Marathon or Singapore Marathon.  Aside from this, the greater aim of the event is to contribute to the upliftment of the lives of the street children of Manila through Virlanie Foundation, the beneficiary of the marathon.  In the last year, we have raised over Php 1. 5 million through the two runs we have organized – a part of the proceeds had been used to purchase a van that was handed over to the foundation for their activities. This year we are targeting to have over 6,000 runners and for better success in terms of fund raising. ” says Sofitel Philippine Plaza General Manager Adam Laker.
