Life is unpredictable; it can slap you in the face one day without you knowing it, and it can be so hard to pick yourself up and try again. Still, it’s important for you to know that you matter. Somewhere, someone out there cares for you. You may not know it, but someone really does. Mental health advocate and writer Nannie Flores has struggled with depression in the past and has shared some of her tips on how she overcame her battle with us.

Stick to a Routine.

Doctors recommend sticking to a routine. Nannie made a schedule for when she would wake up, eat, and even sleep. She mentioned that “just as you have an alarm clock in the morning, you should have an alarm clock at night to make sure you get proper sleep”. Since a lack of sleep can greatly affect mood swings, it’s important to get a good night’s rest every night.

Keep a Planner.

Planners can help you become organized and will make sure you stay on track when it comes to your routine. In addition, keeping a planner will prevent you from being idle. The more idle you are, the more prone you will be to having negative thoughts.

Eat Right and Exercise.

Exercise results in a healthy body, which gives you a healthy mind. Exercise also releases endorphins known as happy hormones.

Find New Hobbies.

Aside from doing your daily routine and going to work or school, it is also important to find a new hobby to keep yourself sane.

It also works as “me-time”, where you can relax while doing something new. If you’re not sure what hobby to take yet, why not try something different like making dreamcatchers? The possibilities with them are endless.

Get a Pet.

Being alone can sometimes be tough, and having a companion with you can help relieve a lot of stress. Getting a pet and having something to take care of other than yourself can keep your mind in the clear for a while.

Reach Out.

Having a support system is important.

Never take your friends and family for granted because they are the ones who care about you and who will always be there for you, no matter what.

Practice Gratitude.

Once a day, think of 3 things that you are grateful for. Keeping a gratitude journal can help you find peace and happiness in your everyday life. Being thankful for what you have and the good things that happened to you each day will help you get a more positive outlook on life.

A good way of keeping track of your goals and progress is by keeping a journal. The 2018 edition of Belle De Jour (BDJ) Power Planner is officially on sale. Meet your #2018Goals whether they be #HealthGoals, #FitnessGoal, or #TravelGoals with the BDJ Planner.
