CNN Philippines reports that the 41-year-old actor, famously known for playing Marvel hero Doctor Strange in the silver screen, “fought off a group of assailants attempting to mug a delivery cyclist”.
Four men pounced and jumped on the delivery boy and tried to take his bike, according to the London Metropolitan Police.
It has been reported that the actor “jumped out of his Uber cab to help a cyclist from the food delivery company Deliveroo, who was being attacked by a group of would-be muggers in central London”. Witnesses told The Sun that Cumberbatch was also yelling the gang to “leave him alone”. Cumberbatch was with his wife Sophie Hunter inside the cab when he saw the incident on the street they were passing.
Cab driver Manuel Dias joined Cumberbatch in saving the poor delivery man. It was not until the latter yelled when Dias realized that it was the actor.
Thank you Benedict Cumberbatch for your brave actions. Deliveroo riders are heroes – their safety is our priority and any violence against them is totally unacceptable. So on behalf of everyone at deliveroo: thank you. pic.twitter.com/NGCkQB3z7J

Deliveroo, an online food ordering company in London, acknowledged Cumberbatch for his effort to save their delivery cyclist through a tweet.
Dias He considered the cyclist lucky despite what further harm could have happened if Cumberbatch didn’t come in as a “superhero”. “Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured,” he said. “He asked the rider how he was and when he said, ‘I’m OK’ Benedict just hugged him.”
Cumberbatch is also famous for playing protagonist and detective Sherlock Holmes in drama series ‘Sherlock’, now in its fourth season.
“I did it out of, well, I had to, you know…” Cumberbatch tells The Sun.
That’s one lucky encounter for the delivery boy! For Cumberbatch, his cape never comes off even when he’s not in front of the camera! Indeed, it was such an amazing and noble act to do.
