Why You Should Watch Gyeongseong Creature

Gyeongseong Creature is the latest creature genre KDrama on Netflix, and it is sooooo good! We got to attend a virtual press con with the cast and director, and here’s what they had to say about why you should watch the series.

Why You Should Watch Gyeongseong Creature

Intriguing Story

Park Seo-jun admits that he always looks at the story first, and “Gyeongseong Creature and the narrative of it was very intriguing.” Han So-hee adds, “I loved that this was set in the 1940s.  It’s also about a creature, so it’s a really fun mix of a creature genre and a period drama. I thought that a creature genre would be an immense help to me as an actress going forward.”

Kim Claudia shares that she hasn’t been in a show for quite some time. “I think I’m really lucky to have come across this kind of show,” she says. “When I first met with Director Jung, I thought this was a very enticing narrative.” “I was very intrigued by the fact that this is a mashup of a period drama and a creature genre,” Kim Hae-sook chimes in. “It’s just something really new.” “I love the script and I love Director Jung,” beams Jo Han-chul. I’m a big fan of his work.”

Great Cast, Writer, and Director

“I’m a big fan of our writer,” Seo-jun beams. “I love her work, so it was a no-brainer for me. Also, we have Director Jung. When I was in Itaewon Class, his work was also airing. It was called Hot Stove League, so I wanted to meet with him. And then we have So-hee as well playing Chae-ok in the show, so it’s just a no-brainer for me because it’s just going to be really fun.”

So-hee also admits that she was a big fan of Hot Stove League. “I was a big fan of the work that Seo-jun starred in as well,” she adds. Hae-sook mentions that she has a lot of trust in the writer and the director, so there was no reason to say no to it. “Plus, we have a very star-studded cast. We have veteran actors that I really wanted to work alongside, so I’m really happy to be on this show.”

Han-chul adds, “When you hop onto a show, it’s really important who the cast is. You want to know who you’re working with, and this cast was a cast that I really wanted to work with. For me, it was a no-brainer too.”

Multi-Faceted Roles

Seo-jun shares that his role is the type of a role where he could show different facets of himself while Han-chul raves about how much he likes his character. “Joong-won has a melodramatic role to him so I wanted to take this part,” he explains.

Claudia also points out the scale scale of the whole show. It’s a grand, big genre, and we have the little emotional turmoils within that grand scale. I knew that if I gave this a try, I would grow as an actor.

Gyeongseong Creature Offers a Different Type of Creature

Director Jung points out that Gyeongseong Creature will be very different from Sweet Home. “Our creature has a feeling of sadness,” he explains. “I think that is what sets our creature apart from other creatures out there. You will realize and understand what I mean after watching the series. The creature in Gyeongseong Creature is not the really strong and cool type. That’s not our focus. It has its own backstory, and her backstory is shown through her apperance, her expression, and her actions. In order to pull that off, we talked a lot with the VFX team. We always have that feeling of sadness and wistfulness inside our creature.”
