When in Prague – What To Do, Where To Stay & Where to Eat

#WhenInPrague – Where To Eat

Prague is a fantastic foodie destination and offers delicious local cuisine and artisan pastries at a wide range of prices. Young, trendy and quirky cafés dot the city center and it is impossible not to find a great place to dine at or simply enjoy a cup of coffee. While the Old Town Square mainly caters to tourists, the city still offers many places that are authentic and fair in pricing.

Since the city always has large visitor numbers, cafés tend to be flooded by tourists. Nonetheless, this does not diminish the quality of their food or the dining experience.

Café Savoy

The caring staff of the Four Seasons Hotel recommended we visit Café Savoy to experience authentic Czech cuisine and classic local coffee culture. The belle époque Café Savoy is simply astonishing. The menu offers a wide array of lunch and dinner dishes, many of which are rich in meat.

Viennese cakes and pastries are displayed at the coffee corner of the restaurant, which immediately impresses with its lavish interiors and ostentatious chandeliers. While it is a good idea to make a table reservation, we tried our luck without one. We were seated in the smoking area, which was ok for us since we had an excellent balcony view over the entire restaurant. For the quality, ambience and swanky interiors, prices are surprisingly reasonable.

The basement of the restaurant houses a beautiful wine cellar and bar. On the way to the washrooms a glass wall allows views into the beautiful artisan kitchen.

Krusta Artistan Bakery

What is the macaron to France, is the Krusta to the Czech Republic. This divine little bread-like sugar pastry is a must-try and it is to no surprise that Krusta Artisan Bakery usually has long lines at Prague’s Old Town store. The dessert/snack is popular amongst locals and tourists alike.

Cotto Crudo (Four Seasons Hotel)

The Cotto Crudo is a beautiful Italian restaurant, located at the Four Seasons Hotel in Prague. It is an upscale restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since we stayed at the hotel, it was only natural to also enjoy the restaurant’s 5-star cuisine.

The menu offers a wide selection of interesting twists on both Italian as well as local Czech dishes. With an artist of a chef, we received seafood and mozzarella appetizers, traditional Czech main courses and ice ream & sorbet for dessert. All meals were artfully arranged, incredibly fresh and delicious.

The ice cream & sorbet dessert were my personal highlights, as they came in medium sized glass bowls, were beautifully arranged with tropical flowers and fruits and had a unique, exotic mix of flavors.

The Cotto Crudo Restaurant has excellent service and an unmatched location with its terrace overlooking the river Vltava and the beautiful Prague Castle. While the prices are a bit higher, the view, food and entire dining experience make the visit definitely worth it – highly recommended!
