We all know the story of Dorothy, the little girl who was transported to the Land of Oz. There, she goes on an adventure with the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion to meet the Wizard of Oz to take her back to Kansas. Indeed, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a classic we grew up with. Now, the timeless story is given the TV show treatment, and it looks like something straight out of Game of Thrones.
The new series is called Emerald City.

The new TV show is a lot more mature and dark than the story we grew up with. First, Dorothy is an adult and Toto is a K-9 police dog. The Wicked Witch of the West isn’t green, and Oz looks more like Westeros than the ones we saw on Wicked or any of the film adaptations. And oh, the Scarecrow is a hunk.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a novel written by L. Frank Baum in 1900. The Library of Congress has declared it “America’s greatest and best-loved homegrown fairytale,” with adaptations on film and the stage, most notably Wicked, which served as the origin story of the Wicked Witch. It has been adapted or translated in at least 50 languages around the world.
Emerald City‘s first season will premiere on January 6, 2017 on NBC.
