WATCH: Rescued Dogs Transform into Star Wars Characters to Visit Sick Kids in Hospitals

In celebration of #WorldAnimalDay, the 20th anniversary of Dr Dog-Philippines, and the 40th anniversary of Star Wars “A New Hope”, the therapy dogs of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) have teamed up with the 501st and the Rebel Legion (groups of Star Wars aficionados in the Philippines who dress up as Star Wars characters when they visit sick kids in hospitals) to bring joy to the patients of Philippine Cerebral Palsy Institute last September 30.

Watch.

The Furrs Is Strong

Meet some of the cast.

PAWS Luke Sky Howler

THE JEDI. Believe it or not, Dr. Eddie has been called a Jedi long before he was ‘cast’ in this, PAWS Star Wars-Dr Dog Edition.

PAWS Furrincess Leia

FUR-RINCESS LEIA. At 16, Dr. Lady is probably the most senior Doctor Dog still on active duty. Her ladylike demeanor has made her a constant darling of the crowd during Dr Dog sessions and was the obvious choice to play “Leia Organa.”

PAWS Han Doggo

HAN DOGGO. The dashing Han Solo character had to be assigned to the Dr. Dog with the most freckles, er, the most expressive facial expression. Dr. Leo is one of seven aspins (Philippine native dogs) on PAWS’ roster of therapy dogs. Like his Han Doggo alter-ego, Leo defied great odds to recover from a bad past (Leo was a victim of neglect).

PAWS Bark Vader

CUTEST VILLAIN. Villains are meant to be hated, but how can we hate this adorable ‘Bark Vader?’ Dr. India makes her debut as a herapy dog. With that cute mug, who wouldn’t want to be turned to the ‘bark’ side?

What an incredible advocacy, where rescued dogs become therapy dogs for ailing children. This is a new hope for everyone indeed.

We urge everyone to make a donation towards the Doctor Dog Program, which has brought joy to hundreds of children in hospitals for the past 20 years. Sign up as a Supporting Member or give a one-time gift of any amount.
