When in Manila, it is possible to follow the healthy, ancient way of eating: Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dine like a pauper. Because just a couple of weeks ago, I literally had breakfast like a king.
I was strolling along Manila Bay, in front of SM Mall of Asia, when I saw people flocking in Vikings, this familiar huge ship shaped structure that is almost always full of people, both inside – eating, and outside – waiting for a seat. It opened rather early. At 9’o clock in the morning, Vikings was already accepting excited food trippers, families, joggers and other passersby.
Vikings is now open for Breakfast!
I was expecting Vikings to provide the usual breakfast as what top hotels do in the country. In my mind, I was already picturing the always present Chinese dimsum and congee, some American staples like bacon, hashbrown and cereals, and the infamous Filipino garlic rice partnered with bangus, corned beef or longganisa. But when I entered, I discovered much much more.. I think my eyes feasted as much as my stomach did.
With all the food specialties around the world, arranged in beautiful platters before me, I felt like royalty. I think you would too, just look at some snapshots of the Vikings Breakfast Buffet. 🙂
Appetizers, anyone? From Hongkong hawker stands to Japanese sushi and maki, from Egyptian hummus to Western salads, Vikings has it all prepared for your breakfast.
Congee: a Chinese classic!
Vikings is popular for its wonderful and colorful display of maki.
A long array of salad. Note: this is just one side of their salads table.
Vikings even has a grilling station for various kinds of kebabs and fresh seafoods.
Isn’t this golden hashed brown oh so tempting?
Egg benedict, bacon and hashed brown with their soft flagrant garlic rice.
If you’re feeling Italian, you may roll your fork in their generously served oil-based or tomato-based pasta or chomp on their pizza.
They even serve steaks and hams for breakfast! All freshly sliced and grilled on their carving station. The beef is superb, soft and tender. The ham reminds me the joyful memories of Christmas with its sweet pineapple glaze.
Vikings has free-flowing drinks for you too during breakfast. From three kinds of milk, to seven kinds of juices, to various soda brands, to coffee and even to beer, they’re all available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Who knew Puto Bumbong could be available all year round now?
Have some dessert like a king! Of course, I had to take a spoonful of my favorite yoghurt ice cream topped with the milk chocolate bits.
Sweet stuff for the sweet tooth.
Ready to breakfast like a king? After a week’s hard work, be sure to treat yourself in Vikings when in Manila!
