Medical Convention (MedCon), one of the flagship events of the University of the Philippines Pre-Medical Society (UP PMS), serves as a testament to the organization’s longstanding commitment to developing future physicians. Founded in 1956, UP PMS is a duly recognized university-wide socio-civic organization in the University of the Philippines Diliman. Through MedCon, it creates a space for students to engage with the evolving landscape of medicine and the life sciences.

Anchored in its guiding mantra, “Giving It Life,” the event brings together medical experts, practitioners, and advocates to explore various health issues, emerging innovations, and holistic care. It seeks not only to strengthen participants’ technical foundations in health sciences but also to cultivate a deeper sense of purpose in the practice of medicine.
This year’s Medical Convention features Lifelines: Medicine as a Pathway of Connections, Life, and Urgency. It is a one-day program that aims to educate and inspire the youth in pursuing medicine. The event proudly brings together nine speakers from diverse medical fields:
- Michael Maniwa MD, JD

- Jose Bayani Aliling Jr., MD, FPOA, FPOSSM
- Rodrigo Angelo Ong, MD
- Emmanuel Luis S. Mangahas, MD
- Teofredo T. Esguerra, MD, Op Med
- Juliver T. Tomas, MD

Participants will also have the opportunity to upskill through bandaging, knotting, and vital signs workshops in partnership with Mx. Jian Paulo Pacleb, the ASMPH Surgical Society, and members of the UP Pre-Medical Society.
The event will also feature a medical-themed Quiz Bee covering topics such as Anatomy, Physiology, Clinical Reasoning, and First Aid. Open primarily to senior high school students, the competition aims to provide a platform for aspiring healthcare professionals to showcase their knowledge and passion for medicine while promoting curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific literacy.
Over the years, MedCon has grown into one of the organization’s most anticipated initiatives, attracting learners united by a shared passion for service and science. By continuing to provide opportunities for dialogue and learning, UP PMS remains committed to empowering individuals who aspire to contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of society, truly embodying its vision of “Giving It Life.”
