UP AstroSoc Celebrates National Astronomy Week 2025 with ‘Scena Illumina’ Theme

For over three decades, the University of the Philippines Astronomical Society (UP AstroSoc) has been at the forefront of promoting astronomy education and appreciation among Filipino students and the general public. This year, UP AstroSoc celebrates National Astronomy Week (NAW) 2025 with the theme, “Scena Illumina,” from February 1 to 22, bringing a dazzling array of events that highlight the beauty and relevance of astronomy in daily life.

This year’s celebration intertwines PAGASA’s theme, “Stellar Encounters: Astronomy in Daily Life (In Music, in Arts, In Film, In Climate Change, and in Mental Health),” with UP AstroSoc’s innovative and imaginative activities. The theme showcases how astronomy influences various aspects of human life, from inspiring creativity in the arts to shedding light on critical issues such as climate change and mental health. Through this, NAW 2025 aspires to illuminate the connection between the cosmos and our everyday experiences, fostering a deeper appreciation for the universe.

NAW 2025 Main Pub 1

NAW 2025 welcomes everyone – students, teachers, and astronomy enthusiasts alike. High school students can take the stage with Big Bang and Take-Off, while educators level up their skills in Parallax.

Big Bang is an astronomical quiz show aimed at showcasing the knowledge of high school students about astronomy and promoting the significance of astronomy and space education in research, culture, and society. This will be held on February 22, 8 AM to 5 PM, at the Institute of Biology Auditorium, UP Diliman.

Meanwhile, Take-Off is a water rocket-making and rocket-launching competition designed to foster resourcefulness and innovation among students. Rocket-making will take place on February 22, 9:30 AM to 12 NN, at the Institute of Biology Open Area, while the rocket-launching competition will follow from 1 to 4 PM at the College of Mass Communication (CMC) Hills, UP Diliman.

High school teachers can enhance their understanding of the universe and advance their instructional skills in teaching astronomy through Parallax, a lecture and roundtable discussion held on February 22, 10 AM to 12 NN, at the College of Science Auditorium, UP Diliman.

NAW 2025 has exciting events open to the general public as well!
