U.S. Now Requires Social Media for Visa Application

If you will be applying for a US Visa soon, you may have to provide your social media account names. Proposed in March 2018, all individuals should be able to provide their accounts that they have been using for the past five years.

 

There is a list of social media platforms that are needed but they also have to provide email addresses and phone numbers for the U.S. to check behavior and possible involvement in terrorism. The rule was first announced in 2018 and is taking effect this June 2019 following the order of President Donald Trump to highten assessment.

 

According to the Federal Register, an estimated 14million travelers and 710,000 immigrants will be affected by the rule.
