When in Manila, be pulled in the latest trends of Philippine Fashion as De La Salle College of Saint Benilde present to you their graduating class of 2012—majors in Fashion Design and Merchandising. The graduation gala show displaying the amazing works of these young, gifted and aspiring talents was held in the Harbour Garden Tent of Sofitel Philippine Plaza last March 31, 2012. The event was strictly formal, so it was very exciting getting ready for it.

It was definitely an astonishing show, as around thirty student designers wowed the audience with their one-of-a-kind skill and craft. The program was well-organized and fast-paced to accommodate the avant-garde designs of every student. Each student paraded three of their best works. There were also various themes that cut the show into different segments—such as tribal, fusion, festival glam, futuristic, and patriotism.

There’s no doubt that Philippine Fashion is a growing industry of incredibly talented designers, creative stylists, beautiful models, and everything in between. Fashion has played such a huge role in our culture, that many Filipinos have made a name for themselves around the world—showcasing their remarkable talents through their collection of gowns, bags, accessories, and more. Just take a look at Monique Lhuillier and Mich Dulce, who have designed for numerous Hollywood celebrities. Even in modeling, Danica Magpantay elevated our country’s name by winning the Ford Supermodel of the World last 2011.

When In Manila, with its fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable trend (in Heidi Klum’s Words, “One day you’re in, the next day you’re out), the fashion industry can be quite a challenging path to take. But seeing the innovative designs of these students proves that not only are they talented, ambitious and hardworking, they also know what they are doing and are prepared to face the realities of a competitive industry. Their strong, breathtaking works are very inspiring and will certainly continue to give a name for the Philippines in the world of fashion.
