12. CARAMEL CAKE

When talking about caramel cakes, it has always been only the best: ESTREL’S and COSTA BRAVA. You can never go wrong with these two. What’s nice about them is they are not too sweet. Also, they don’t use preservatives so these are best consumed within the day to fully enjoy it.

Pasteleria Costa Brava is the healthier version of Estrel’s. They use coco sugar and has the softest, melt-in-your-mouth chiffon cake and caramel icing.

*** Another caramel cake favorite is from Becky’s Kitchen. Some are even claiming that this is better than Estrel’s or Costa Brava’s.

11. YEMA CAKE

This is the Filipino’s version of caramel cakes. The icing is thicker, sweeter and milkier.

Rodilla’s Yema Cake is the pride of Tayabas, Quezon. Rodilla’s is the original and is known as the best yema cake in town.

Resellers are all over the internet, but I buy mine from the sweet treats fair at Trinoma mall every weekend.

Panaderia Pantoja’s Yema Cake is one of the best creations of this humble bakery that originated from Tanauan, Batangas. Regular customers and new customers keep coming back not just for their breads but also for their yema cake.

*** Remilly’s Yema Cake is another favorite. It is a great alternative to Rodilla’s, only a bit sweeter and has more cheese gratings on top.

You may buy from different resellers. I saw one stand-alone branch in Mayon corner P. Florentino St., QC.

10. UBE (PURPLE YAM) CAKE

A classic Pinoy favorite, usually flavored with pandan or macapuno (sweetened coconut)

*** Another must try ube cake is the Purple High Cake by Dorothy Ferreria. However, they do not make much of the purple high cake these days due to the seasonal availability of the purple yam, which they use to make their own jam for the cake.  An alternative: their chocolate raspberry cake!
