So Tony Hawk Had to Explain to Reporters Margielyn Didal’s Caption on Their Photo…

Tony Hawk had to go through the painful experience of having to explain a joke to international reporters.

The legendary skateboarder recently took a photo with Filipina Olympian Margielyn Didal during the skateboarding competition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which the latter captioned with, “This guy asked me to take a photo with him and I let him because he looks like Tony Hawk.”

The post subsequently went viral online thanks to the many Filipinos who found Margielyn’s Pinoy humor funny.

However, the joke seemed to fly over international reporters’ heads.

In a tweet, Tony shared with followers a question he got in an interview that day which pertained to Margielyn’s viral post. “I was asked during an interview today: ‘How does it feel to go to the Olympics and not be recognized by competing skaters, like Margielyn Didal?’ So I had to explain that she was joking with her caption. My life is weird.”

Olympics fans all over the world instantly became charmed by Margielyn’s positivity and good sportsmanship after seeing clips of her just dancing around and having fun while competing in the Women’s Street Skateboarding Finals.

Her photo smiling and holding a “thumbs up” sign, in particular, that was posted by the official Tokyo Olympics Twitter account with the caption “the Margielyn Didal Seal [of] Approval” became one of the Internet’s favorite photos.

Margielyn placed seventh out of eight in the final rankings of the competition after failing to nail four out of her five tricks due to an apparent ankle sprain.
