It’s official: Tom Holland and Zendaya’s relationship is no publicity stunt but something born out of pure, honest love for one another.
The “Spider-Man” actor recently was interviewed by GQ magazine where he opened up about his fame, his upcoming movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and the difficulties of maintaining a private life when the cameras aren’t rolling. He notably touched on the topic of him and Zendaya being spotted and filmed kissing in a car last July that had confirmed longstanding rumors of their budding romance.
To Tom, the news breaking out online still haunts him to this day.
“One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,” Tom told GQ. “I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy.”
He went on to explain that it wasn’t a question of whether the two of them were ready to share their relationship publicly but rather that they just “didn’t want to.”
When also asked about it, Zendaya added: “It was quite strange and weird and confusing and invasive. The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own.… I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other.”
Tom also assured all that the photos weren’t at all staged and that he’s still wondering how the photographer had gotten the shot as he always made a point to be careful when he goes out in public.
However, he did not reveal any more details about his romance with Zendaya in the interview, saying that it’s something he didn’t want to discuss without her there to talk about it with him. “You know, I respect her too much to say… This isn’t my story. It’s our story. And we’ll talk about what it is when we’re ready to talk about it together.”
