Jane de Leon has gone viral over the weekend for her very first Darna transformation on TV! In line with this, I somehow fell into the rabbit hole and found out that she used to be in a girl group with Chie Filomeno, whose fairy-themed birthday photos went trending last week!

Did everyone already know this or have I been living under a rock? I was so surprised to find out and wondered how I could have possibly missed this. It wasn’t even just any girl group, the two viral stars were apparently members of GirlTrends!
In a YouTube video posted by the Kapamilya Trending channel, Jane and Chie performed with fellow members Jessica and Joana. Watch their dance number on “It’s Showtime” below!
And I wasn’t the only one, netizens also flocked to the comments rewatching the new Darna’s previous performance. One commented, “I’m just here for Jane because of Darna!” while another one said, “proud of you crush Jane, may sarili ka nang name sa [entertainment] industry!”
GirlTrends debuted on the Philippine noontime show in February 2016 with 22 members. Aside from those mentioned above, some of them were Devon Seron, Loisa Andalio, Barbie Imperial, Riva Quenery, and Dawn Chang.
In a recent tweet, Chang also expressed how proud she is of her former colleague.

Jane has really come a long way–and I say this because I also found a recent interview where she recalled her humble beginnings.
Apparently, she would commute from Laguna to Quezon City with her mom just to attend acting workshops. “‘Yong 100 pesos pinagkakasya po talaga namin ‘yon sa pamasahe. From Magallanes, bababa po kami para sumakay ng MRT. Tapos pagkakasyahin naming dalawa ‘yong Sky Flakes pati tubig. Ganoon po talaga kahirap ‘yong ginagawa namin noon. Tiyaga lang talaga,” Jane told Manila Bulletin.
