The Royal Piccadilly : A Taste of British Grub & Brews in Manila

Now, food!

First up, Fish and chips. What I like about it is the huge beer-battered fish staring right at you. This is only good for one, btw, but the fish takes up almost half the plate!  The tartar sauce is what we usually pair it with but I learned that the British dip their fish in suka! Just like us, only their suka is malt vinegar.

Beer-battered fish dipped in malt vinegar is my first pick, anytime.

Another classic from the Brits is the Bangers and Mash. Earlier I told you that they make their food from scratch, well these sausages are made from scratch, a Royal Piccadilly original. What I love about it is that they’re not fatty and they’re perfectly cooked. It doesn’t crumble when you slice it and the meat inside is tasty and soft.

Bangers are sausages in British slang. They go pretty well with mashed potatoes and gravy.

The meat pies might be as addicting as those in the Sweeney Todd movie but they’re the obviously good ones. (if you know what I mean. haha) I’ve been eating their pies and the only pie that I haven’t tried yet is the steak and cheese pie (their bestseller). I’m always attracted to either the chicken pie or the beef and gravy pie but this Chili con pie with mash, mushy peas and gravy is a scrummy quad.

The perfect combination of carbs and protein. Meat pies and mash! (and beer)

Of course a meal isn’t complete without dessert and fortunately The Royal Piccadilly  is also rich in afters options. The obvious choice–cupcakes. My favorite would have to be the Earl Grey cupcake (because it tastes like my favorite tea) but that night we also tried their red velvet and choco peanut butter cupcakes.

Fancy having a cupcake?

To end our British food experience, we had a cuppa. (A cup of tea). I discovered that Twinings is the preferred tea of the queen, thus it’s the only one allowed inside the mansion. That’s what The Royal Piccadilly serves too.

I also learned that each kind of  tea has a specific brewing time. 2 mins for white tea, 3 mins for green and 4 mins for black.

To cap of the night perfectly Another bevvy I tried (yes, I researched British slang) is the famous Butter beer. ACK!!!  I got so excited when the owner asked me if I wanted one, and of course I wanted one! It’s the closest (aside from books) I could get to the HP world.  I think I’ll have this again with Hermoine and Ron look-alikes, I’ll be Harry. HAHA

Surprisingly, Butter beer isn’t beer, it’s… ***. (take a wild guess)

Overall, The Royal Piccadilly serves delicious British staples, desserts, comfort food, beers and tea in the heart of Katipunan. It’s a cozy place where you can dine with friends or have beer on your own while watching your favorite game.

Chat with your girlfriends or have a meeting in their  laidback set-up.

Get cozy at the bar after a stressful day while drinking a bottle of beer and watching the game.

When in Manila, the buy-one-take-one  Bavaria beer promo and World Cup burgers will only be available until July 30 but everything else I mentioned will always be available. I look forward to eating here again! Hopefully I’ll be able to try another burger, meat pie and their famous rainbow cake.
