The Road Less Traveled: Smitten by Bohol

DAY 2

The second day was all about beaches.

We woke up extra early to have a glimpse of the sunrise. We went to the beach front to catch it however, we weren’t able to see it because something was blocking it from our view.

Bohol (14)

Still an awesome start to beach day though.

There are two major islands you can hop on Panglao Island – Balicasag Island and Virgin Island.

Balicasag Island offers a rich sea habitat that is ideal for snorkeling. The clear water easily shows different schools of fish, corals, turtles, and more living in it.

We were also fortunate to catch a quick glimpse of dolphins passing by.

Offering a long sandbar you can tread on, Virgin Island is a pristine island that has that vibe that melts all troubles away. However, when we dropped by, we noticed their already developing one side of the island.

The best way to enjoy the beach?

With fresh buko juice right from the shell on one hand and a fantastic travel buddy on the other.

DAY 3

This is the “medyo buwis buhay” kind of day.

Part of the trip’s itinerary is to see a falls so we searched for one nearby. I have never visited a falls in Bohol and it was a pleasant surprise to have seen one.

From Panglao Island, we took a jeep and bus going to the town of Balilihan. Balilihan is about 22 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. The trip from Panglao to Balilihan took around two hours. It’s really not the far, it’s just that the commute was rather slow.

We were heading towards Kawasan Falls (in Bohol and not the one in Cebu).

When we reached Balilihan, the only option to the falls was to ride a motorcycle. You could say it was a good training if we wanted to shift careers and be riding in tandem crooks. LOL.

There were three of us on the motorcycle – the driver, supergirl, and I.

The drive to Kawasan Falls was a bit of a challenge. We got lost a few times so we had to turn around every now and then. At first, it felt like we were driving in circles.

Also, aside from the super-tight set-up we had, we passed by dirt roads. Since it rained a bit, the dirt road was muddy and flipping over on the motorcycle was somewhat imminent.

But fortunately, we arrived safely to the falls.

The view was just mesmerizing. The water was a cool. A quick dip was inviting, but the shower it gave us was already refreshing.

It was just beautiful.

Bohol (20)

Sadly though, a huge part of this falls was affected by the strong earthquake that hit Bohol a couple of years back. They said there used to be a cave part by the falls where you can have a picnic, which was destroyed by the earthquake. There used to be swimming pools in the area too, but were also destroyed by the quake.

Like what I said in the beginning of this blog post, I was wrong. I have rekindled my liking for Bohol. In a way, I am enamored with it (and with taking roads less traveled).

I hope this is just the first of many…

So, where should we head to next?
