The MMFF is Pushing Through This Year, Here’s How They’ll Do It

MMFF 2020

One of the things families look forward to each year is the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). With COVID-19 pandemic putting everything to a halt, we wondered if it’s still pushing through.

We have good news as producer Noel Ferrer announced that this year’s MMFF is still happening.

On Instagram, he shared a photo of a Zoom call with his colleagues.

Ferrer said, “TULOY ANG METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL 2020! Yan ang napagdesisyunan sa katatapos pa lang na meeting ng Metro Manila Film Festival, na talagang well-attended at puno ng good vibes.”

After saying a prayer and commendation for execomm members Manay Ichu Vera Perez-Maceda and Atty Rolando Duenas, who passed away, Ferrer announced that the MMFF will be moving online.

He said, “Pinakamalaking balita na magiging ONLINE na ang MMFF sa taong ito at i-aannounce sa susunod na mga araw ang magiging ka-partner na worldwide streaming service ng mga entries ensuring that the biggest, the most popular and the longest running Filipino film festival will be happening everywhere – recreating happy traditions, and experiencing MMFF beyond-the-movies – together with the whole family.”

Ferrer shared that Direk Laurice Guillen was convinced to shift online after Cinemalaya.

Now that MMFF is going online, the producer also shared some announcements for filmmakers:

The deadline for finished films will be moved from October 15 to November 15. Meanwhile, the deadline for finished films based on approved scripts has been moved from October 31 to November 30.

According to Ferrer, “This will give producers and filmmakers more time na puliduhin pa ang kanilang mga entries.”

Entry fees for films submitted for consideration for the MMFF Summer Festival are now waived. Filmmakers must fill out the forms for resubmission.

Ferrer ended his post with, “Dahil sa ONLINE distribution – mas maraming Pilipino ang makakapanood ng mga pelikula -pero isang major na kunsiderasyon ang pag-iwas sa piracy na natugunan naman ng magiging partner ng MMFF at i-aannounce sa mga darating na araw!!!
