When in Manila for on March 17 and 18, you can’t miss out on The Legend and The Classics as three iconic Filipino artists Lisa Macuja, Lea Salonga and Cecile Licad share the stage and perform together live for the very first time right here in Manila. It’s going to be a night for the books people, this we have got to see.
Lisa Macuja is the country’s Prima Ballerina, she took her first ballet class at the age of 8 and became the first foreign soloist who ever joined the Kirov Ballet in her teens. Disney Legend Lea Salonga became a household name when she originated in the lead role of Kim in the Musical Miss Saigon and brought home many awards including a Tony. Child prodigy Cecile Licad began her piano studies at the age of three and is a renowned Filipino virtuoso classical pianist and became the youngest gold medalist at the prestigious Leventritt Competition.
I grew up admiring these ladies! I mean, I remember how growing up, my siblings and I all took Piano lessons inspired by the work of Cecile Licad and what girl didn’t want to be a ballerina after seeing Lisa Macuja‘s performances? She simply moved with such grace and every little girl wanted to dance like she did. And Lea Salonga, to this day remains to be one of my favorite performers and who inspired me to belt out in small school stages at a young age and I remember how when I was a child, I would listen to all my casette tapes of Miss Saigon and sing and act in the privacy of my bedroom pretending I was Kim. I memorized every line to her songs and yes, even cried when imaginary Thuy threatened to kill my imaginary son (umm,my pillow really). I know it sounds crazy but that’s how influential these three were and still are!
It is with great excitement that I share with you this wonderful news, you can expect these three ladies to more than wow you as they take center stage this weekend at the Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It will be an extraordinary night of song, music and dance as they will also be joined by Musical Director Gerard Salonga, Filharmonika, Ballet Manila, and internationally acclaimed Cellist Wilfredo Pasamba.
So when in Manila on March 17 or 18, join me as I watch The Legends and The Classics at the CCP. This is presented by Ballet Manila and Manila Broadcasting Company, with the support of Lifestyle Network, Sofitel Philippine Plaza and Ayala Land. Tickets are available at TicketWorld outlets or buy them at www.ticketworld.com.ph
