Tanghalang Batingaw’s 48th Season Ender Explores Legacy and Hope with “Sa Dulo ng Apitong St.”

Tanghalang Batingaw will present their 48th Season Ender production at LPU-Manila’s JPL Hall of Freedom on June 20–21, featuring the Batch 48 trainees as the actors. Written by Rowell Camat and directed by Kate Arbby Manahan, “Sa Dulo ng Apitong St.” is a story about hope rising from the depths of despair. This season ender marks both a beginning and an ending: a new batch of trainees will be welcomed, and graduating students will bid farewell. It also stands as a symbol of the hope that Tanghalang Batingaw’s bell will continue to ring in the hearts of the people for more than 48 years.

What is your legacy? Remember when your grandparents shared their adventures—swimming in rivers just to get to school, eating rice with soy sauce to get by—turning those struggles into strength to face life’s storms. But how about you? What legacy do you wish to create in this fleeting life?

MAIN POSTER 1

For Mang Bik, his legacy is one of hope. A morning cup of coffee to ease weary souls and a soft drink in a plastic bag after hours of play—his sari-sari store holds everything we once needed. From being a neighborhood staple to becoming a pillar of hope in times of calamity, the sari-sari store is more than a business. But as modern superstores threaten to take over, will these cherished stores fade into memory—just another sacrifice for “progress,” leaving behind culture and childhood?

Life often pressures us to chase what’s “best,” leaving our dreams behind. Yet despite the world urging an old man to give up his decades-old store, Mang Bik stands firm, holding on to his memories and dreams. Like a candle flickering against strong winds, he strives to keep his sari-sari store alive.

When an unprecedented calamity hit Tacloban in 2013, what happened to the legacies that had been built? Grandparents’ homes, beloved schools, and treasured places were reduced to rubble. In the sea of loss and tears, what remained? We often forget what truly matters, choosing what’s “best” over the comfort of a hug.

Are you ready to journey through a story of hope and dreams? Discover the life that Mang Bik holds dear this June 20 and 21.
