Reuse, reduce, recycle: a feat that is easier said than done. Thankfully, more and more people today are becoming conscious of the things they use and the waste they produce. In fact, a lot are transitioning or expressing their intention to live a waste-conscious lifestyle. Two of the biggest hurdles to this, however, are the availability and affordability of alternatives, especially to plastics which are commonly used for daily living.
Fortunately, several groups of individuals are coming up with creations that are eco-friendly, practical, and affordable. One of these is the group behind Tanaw (Vision), a Los Banos-based business owned by three passionate people who envision a sustainable future for everyone.
What I love about Tanaw is that they ensure that all of the ingredients for their products are locally sourced and made. In addition, their items are useful everyday items that we use for household chores and self-care, all of which are all-natural and plastic-free (even the packaging!). Here are some of our favorites:
Katya and Mesh Produce Bags
I like grocery shopping. That is why these produce bags are a huge hit for me. I love how they come in varying sizes (S, M, L), making it easier for me to sort out my groceries. I don’t need to worry about stains, either, because the bags are washable! P.S. I sometimes use the Katya ones as book bags, too; they’re that sturdy!
Beeswax Wraps
Sandwiches, buns, and pastries are my go-to baon, which is why I find these beeswax wraps so useful. Aside from that, they are great and convenient alternatives for aluminum foil and plastic for covering/wrapping up kitchenware and food. Bonus points because they are pliable, washable, and reusable! Just like the produce bags, Tanaw offers these cloths wrapped in beeswax in S, M, and L sizes!
Hair Pomade
All-natural, easy to wash, and with a heavy hold; Tanaw’s hair pomade is our photographer’s personal favorite! Made with beeswax, shea butter, virgin coconut oil, avocado oil, castor oil, and fragrance; its smell is so nice! Our photographer tried the vanilla one and he loved it! It also comes in musk, strawberry, and raspberry.
Yumi Bars
Tanaw’s Yumi bars are all-in-one soaps that can be used on the hair, face, and body. They are made of certified organic materials with no artificial enhancers whatsoever. I’ve replaced my regular shampoo with their Aloe Vera and Lemon bar, and my hair is super soft now. Plus, it smells so good. Other variants are Avocado and Spearmint, Coconut and Spearmint, and Activated Charcoal and Tea Tree.
Whether you are already practicing or are transitioning to a waste-conscious lifestyle, you may want to try these alternatives which are not just practical and good for the body, but also for the environment!
“We believe that offering products that are good for the environment and for your health in a very cheap price is a good way to help encourage more people to patronize products that contribute less waste.” – Tanaw PH
