Surfer Heaven: Broken Glass Surf Takes You Back to Your Roots
What a haze of a night (as seen in the photos below). All I remember is having one hell of a time talking to the friendliest people around, all keen on sharing a collective passion.Â
 Surfer Heaven: Broken Glass Surf
Â
The crew of Broken Glass Surf  Co.
Â
Surfing has brought all types of people together –from different walks of life and with unique back stories – acting as vertebrae where individuals connect within a community.Â
Broken Glass Surf is a melange of sorts. Comprising of around 15 surfers and one main shaper, the proudly home grown company is gutting through the mainstream and showcasing a delicious bit of local flavor.Â
The main man: Kalua
Â
Born in the Philippines but cultured in Hawaii, BGS shaper-surfer Kalua has been exposed to the art of shaping surfboards almost all his life. As a shop rat in his early childhood, Kalua soon realized he could produce his own quality boards to suit his own needs and preferences.Â
 777 Series
Â
It was this mentality that he brought back to the shores of his motherland. Broken Glass Surf offers homemade, handcrafted surfboards customized to meet the desires of a growing clientele. Hailing from Kalua’s own brand of surfboards, Ehiku, the 777 Series Boards are made using only quality ingredients. Blanks (foam), fiberglass and resin are all sourced from California and are specialized for surfing. The BGS crew explained thoroughly how their boards do not easily dimple or ding.  Check out more about foam and surfing at Club Manila East.Â
Eye Candy – Between the promo girls and the racked boards, the guests (me included) were definitely ogling at the handcrafted beauties.Â
