Packaging/Build: The packaging of the Superlux HD631 is identical to the Superlux HD661‘s packaging. They both have the same box, as well as the same headphone pouch. Only noticeable difference is with the available detachable cables for the headphones. The Superlux HD631 comes with a coiled detachable cable.

Moving to the Superlux HD631‘s build, it retains the same winged headband system as the HD661. I’m a little bit getting used to the wing system instead of the casual adjustable headbands of headphones, primarily because they give a good “hug” to the head opposed to most headphones just having an “on-the-head” feel and have a tendency to feel like they’ll fall if you tilt your head too much downwards or upwards. My only problem with the fit is that, it is very tight and a little painful on the ears initially. The Superlux HD631 are supra-aural headphones, which means the pads rest on your ears. So I suggest stretching them out initially to remove the tightness. I had them stretched out on their box overnight to somehow loosen up. Yes, the Superlux HD631 is made most out of plastic, but I don’t see it being built poorly. The build quality seems to be more sturdy than the HD661 moreover the HD681 and HD668.

Sound Quality: I hate supra-aural headphones, I’ve always had. I don’t like how they squish my ear flat, though, there have been exceptions due to how the sound quality was love-able. For example, the AKG K518LE and the Sennheiser HD25-II which are probably the only supra-aural headphones that I could stand and love. Sadly, my love for them were obliterated by the Superlux HD631. Well, maybe a little love for the Sennheiser HD25-II still remains. The Superlux HD631‘s main focus is the bass. They are advertised as DJ headphones so this is evident. Yes, the lower regions of the sound are the dominant part, but for me, the main selling point of these headphones are the slightly forward mids that are not drowned out by the bass. You won’t be pumping the volume higher and higher just to get a good sense of the vocals. The Superlux HD631 also has a slight space for the soundstage and the mids are clear. May be a little dark sounding, but retains clear mids with tight and controlled bass with quick impact. The Superlux HD631‘s mids may be colored, but they do give a good sense of “fun sounding”. As of the moment, the Superlux HD631 for me is the most “fun sounding” headphone in their line-up. I suggest that aspiring DJs would aim for the Superlux HD631 as their starting monitors, as well as those seeking for a bassy, musical and fun sounding headphone to grab these budget friendly Superlux HD631! Price to performance ratio, as always, is amazing! Superlux HD631 retails for P2,900
