Sue Ramirez will make her stage debut with a leading role at Little Shop of Horrors.

The actress will play Audrey in The Sandbox Collective’s production, which will run this July. She will act opposite theatre veteran Reb Atadero, who will play the underdog romantic Seymour.

Ramirez was last seen in Iron Heart, Rewind, and Jack & Jill Sa Diamond Hills.

Horror, comedy, and rock

Little Shop of Horrors is a horror comedy rock musical with music by Alan Menken and lyrics and a book by Howard Ashman. It is based on the black comedy film of the same name from 1960.

The musical tells the story of Seymour, a florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh.

It received rave reviews when it debuted Off-Broadway in 1982 and even won the Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Musical and Lyrics. The musical was staged on the West End the following year but only opened on Broadway in 2003 after Ashman refused an offer to move there.

In 1986, the musical was adapted into a film directed by Frank Oz and starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, and the voice of Levi Stubbs. Greene reprised her role of Audrey from the original Off-Broadway and West End productions.

The Sandbox Collective’s Little Shop of Horrors will feature a dual cast, with Kapamilya artists Karylle Tatlonghari and Nyoy Volante also playing Audrey and Seymour.

The show will be staged at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater starting July 6, 2024. Show dates and tickets are to be announced soon.
