“Star Wars” actor Peter Mayhew, who portrayed Wookiee warrior Chewbacca in the original trilogy, passed away at his home in Texas last April 30, a tweet from his verified account confirmed today, May 3.

Peter portrayed Chewbacca in various “Star Wars” film including: “Star Wars” (1977), “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980), “Return of the Ewok” (1982), “Return of the Jedi,” “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” (2005), and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015). He was also a consultant in 2017’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
His family also wrote, “To him, the “Star Wars” family meant so much to him than a role in a film.”
A memorial service for friends and family will be held on June 29. Additionally, a memorial for his fans in Los Angeles will also happen in early December at EmpireCon.
