According to Mercado’s post, De Vega has been battling cancer since 2018. “As the disease is progressing, her condition is quickly worsening despite undergoing many procedures including brain surgery,” she said.

The pro-volleyball player is now seeking assistance for her mom’s medical needs and treatment through social media.

De Vega was considered the “Asian Sprint Queen” in her prime as a sprinter. She bagged four Asian Athletics Championship gold medals and multiple titles from different international competitions.

She’s also a former Olympian, and represented our country in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and 1988 Seoul Olympics.
