Shed The Post-Holiday Pounds With Krav Maga Philippines’ Intensive Self-Defense Training

Fortunately for me, the Krav Maga Philippines (an affiliate of Krav Maga Global, or KMG) gym opened bright and early in 2013, resuming operations in the first week of January.  With the infamous creative shot looming and me unsure of just how much magic good contouring could work, I bent to the task of getting whipped back into shape, bumping up my usual one-point-five hour sessions to much longer three-hour ones.

…In hindsight, that might not have been such a good idea.

Rule number one of krav maga is that if you stop attacking, you are toast, as I found out when learning–before the Christmas break–how to get up off the ground.  In the first place, according to instructor Edmundo Ongsiako, if you’re on the ground, something has gone wrong, and as you’re better off defending yourself upright, it’s in your best interests to get up as efficiently and aggressively as possible.

Unfortunately for me, aggression does not come naturally, and so I found myself facing the consequences of a slow get-up: getting pummeled.

Of course, I could have easily tapped out after ten seconds of this treatment proved that my flailing and scratching attempts were no match for the brute force of a long-time krav maga practitioner, but I’m stubborn as all get-out, so I stuck with it for two minutes until getting sweated on and smushed into the floor tired me out and I gave up.

I was able to get my revenge, though, when I got to watch my attacker become the victim of Krav Maga Philippines’ marketing officer, Lean Villanueva.
