Zolah Philippines started when a tired, lost, stressed, and confused university student needed a distraction to help her cope with her mental health and relieve her of school stress. “I’ve always wanted to start my own business,” she shares. “Zolah is like my baby – I love it so much. I love what it means. I love who I am with it. I love my customers. I love the concepts of the candles and I love the product itself.”
The owner has been into scented candles since she was in high school because she loves how scents remind her of certain people, places, and memories. Really, when it came to starting a business, it was scented candles or nothing. While watching ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, she came across a character named Zolah and decided that would be her brand name. Since Netflix and candles are two of her favorite things to do to de-stress, she combined the two to make Netflix-themed scented candles. (They have classic scents, too, though!)

To start her business, the owner chose a few of her favorite shows – two fairly recent ones (‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Crash Landing on You’) and two oldies but goodies (‘Gilmore Girls’ and ‘FRIENDS’). She has been getting a lot of requests to do other shows, as well, so that is definitely something to look forward to in the future.

In terms of the scents of the candles, she shares that she chooses whatever vibes with the show. “I put myself in the characters’ shoes and try to imagine myself being in that setting,” she explains. “I ask myself, ‘What would I smell?’ Then I try and curate the scents.”
Zolah puts a lot of thought into each candle – from the creation to the brainstorming – to provide a unique experience. It’s not just about what the owner wants. They actually listen to feedback and requests, and try to apply them as much as possible.
