Save Philippine Seas Celebrates 2nd Year with Seatizen’s Festival

(Manila, Philippines – August 23, 2013) Save Philippine Seas (SPS)is celebrating its 2nd anniversary on Sunday, September 15, through the Seatizen’s Festival, a fundraiser activity to help support three (3) key efforts in uplifting the state of our seas: the Pawikan Watchers Program, Shark Shelter Project and Pating the documentary.

Green race

 

SPS and Run for Change (Run4change, Inc.) will be putting a new kind of fun in afun run. The race will be a green raceand strictly implement various eco-friendly practices for minimal waste. Several aspects of the event will be done digitally or using recyclable materials.Runners are required to bring their own water bottles.

 

The run aims to reach out to 2,000 runners. The registration fee is only P300 for 1k, 3k, 5k, or 10k. 

 

Runners are also encouraged to come in marine-inspired costumes made from recycled materials. Prizes await those with the most creative costumes. Singlets are available for P200.

 

Registration will be mainly done online to minimize paper wastes. Interested participants may register here.

 

All race and publicity materials printed on tarps will be donated to the Children’s Environmental Education Awareness Foundation, a non-profit organization that upcycles tarps into bags.

 

Sunday Market

 

The Sunday market will showcase up to forty exhibitors and feature creative activities, artwork bylocal artists, eco-friendly products, retailers, food establishments, and exhibits by NGOs and school organizations. It will also hold the Art Shack, a miniature and affordable art store featuring pieces from local artists and artisans that are designed around the concept of ecological awareness. Photography and art workshops will be held during the day as well.

The green practice extends here as well; all exhibitorswill be encouraged to use recyclable or reusable materials for booth décor, product packaging, and other purposes. The Sunday Market will also implement the Quezon City ordinance banning plastic bags.

 

Rock the Boat concert

 

Exciting rock bands and performers, including the Itchyworms, Flying Ipis,and Absolute Zero, will be keeping seatizens entertained from 4PM onwards.
