WATCH: Rico Blanco Dedicates New Acoustic Version of Rivermaya Song to Hidilyn Diaz

Rico Blanco just re-recorded and premiered a new version of a Rivermaya song in honor of our Filipino Olympiad, Hidilyn Diaz.

On Tuesday, July 27, Rico launched the new acoustic rendition of “Alab Ng Puso” on his YouTube channel as he expressed his gratitude to the weightlifting champ for bringing home the Philippines’ first-ever gold medal and being an inspiration to Filipinos everywhere.

Gumising ako kanina at hindi parin makapaniwala na may Olympic Gold Medal na ang Pilipinas,” Rico began on the caption of his YouTube video.

He then said that sharing this new song is his way of appreciating Hidilyn for achieving the impossible.

Salamat, Hidilyn,” he wrote.

[Translation: “I woke up earlier and I still couldn’t believe that the Philippines now has an Olympic Gold Medal. You all know that my love for sports equals my love for music, sometimes it even exceeds it. Since I was a child, I’ve always wondered when the time will come. And it did come yesterday.

On Sgt. Hidilyn Diaz’s shoulders, she carried the dreams of every Filipino like me. I can’t contain the gush of inspiration flowing out of me because of her and to express my thanks I immediately did this recording just for her. Thank you, Hidilyn.”]
