Publications and news sites have reported on the recent Tagaytay crash which involved 6 minors driving a Toyota Vios which was accelerating fast, went wayward and crashed on the opposite lane onto a tree.
There have been conflicting reports: One report says that the car bursted into flames upon impact, another report from the Cavite Police director said that they tried to rescue the passengers but then the car exploded but witnesses claim that there was no fire initially and that the police left the scene after the crash.
GMA News reported “The car burst into flames upon impact.”
Philippine Star also reported on the incident quoting Sr. Supt. Eliseo Cruz, Cavite police director, He said
“Elements of the Silang Police Community Precinct, who were first on the scene, together with officials of Barangay San Jose and the Tagaytay rescue team tried to rescue the passengers but the car exploded.”
Later on a Facebook post emerges of a first hand witness driving along Tagaytay, saw a car which crashed into a tree, without fire.

Another witness (Den Castillo) recounts what happened and expressed her dismay at how slow the reponse was, even that the police left the scene to “personally report” on the incident instead of using a radio for faster communication

Why do you think the police had to leave the scene?
You can’t blame people, magkakaiba ang kaalaman nag bawat tao, magkakaiba ang experience, magkakaiba ang level ng fear and courage. It’s the authorities who should be blamed. The respective reactions of the people – the nurse, those who passed by, mga miron, at pati ang mga umawat sa nurse – pareparehong silang may punto, ayon sa kanilang punto de vista, ayon sa kanilang kakayahang maunawaan ang sitwasyon. Kaya ‘di dapat pagtalunan ito.
Kung ako ay napadaan doon or taga roon ako na napadpad sa eksena, malamang kikilos at magrereact lang ako nang ayon sa kaalaman at experience ko. In my case, titigil talaga ako at gagawa ng pwede kong gawin. Una sa lahat, magiingay ako (busina from my car), to get attention nang mas mabilis, kasi nga isolated area, mas kailangang persistent ang ingay – hanggang makarating sa kaalaman ng lahat ng authorities, pati na mga barangay tanod or officials, pangalawa, babasagin ko ang salamin ng pinto or ung sa likod (pwedeng bato kung meron, or pwedeng mga tools ko sa kotse), hindi ko masisiguro kung ano ang sitwasyon ng mga nasa loob or kung ilan talaga, ang importante, kung mabasag na ang salamin, sila mismong nasa loob (considering na ung babae ay may malay), may chance na makalabas on their own (ung kayang makalabas), at makakausap na sila (kung may gising) – para malaman ang sitwasyon nila.
At the time naman na umaapoy na ang kotse, kung walang tubig, walang fire extinguisher, gagamitin ko ang lupa (na marami sa paligid) para subukang patayin ang apoy. Again, gagawin ko ito kasi na-experience ko na. Natural lang na may ibang hindi pa alam ang pag-gamit ng buhangin or lupa, which is mas effective pa kesa tubig (hindi nga lang rational na ito ang dalhin ng mga bumbero instead of water, pero kung available naman at starting pa lang ang apoy, pwede ang lupa or buhangin). Again, ako yon, nasunugan na kasi kami ng bahay.
People might think, of course, baka sumabog ang kotse, bakit ko gagawin. Well that’s understandable kung hindi aware na very low ang likelihood na sumabog ang kotse. Gaya nang nangyari kay Paul Walker, natakot lumapit ung kumukuha ng video kasi nga baka daw sumabog ang kotse. Samantalang buhay pa si Paul nun, sayang. Kaso sa pagkakaintindi, pagkakaalam at paniniwala ko, hindi sumasabog ang kotse. Kaya yun ang gagawin ko. Malas ko nga lang kung matyempuhan ako ng low likelihood na sinasabi ko, or kung mabilis talaga ang paglaki ng apoy, na mas posibleng mangyari. 🙁
My point is, magkakaiba ang bawat isa satin, kaya walang saysay na pagtalunan at magsisihan kung bakit ganoon or ganito, or kung bakit ginawa or hindi ginawa. Pero isa lang ang tumpak, ang mga authorities, dapat may alam sa mga standard rescue procedures, and should know how to improvise – sa kahit sinong naka-uniform! Kasama na mga tanod at barangay officials.

hindi mangyayari lahat ito kung hindi sila nag joyride at wala silang pare parehong lisensya. naghahanap na lang kayo ng sisisihin. buti na lang hindi sila nandamay ng ibang tao, bumangga sa bahay na may natutulog o bumangga sa ibang kotse.
Passengers at the back could be save base on the first picture. Let’s say they’re all dead on the spot, they should be pull out of the car instead of letting them get burn.
Sa ibang bansa ang kasamang nagre-responde ay car police and ambulance and small fire truck but alam na nating pilipinas nga sana man lang sa loob ng police car may FIRE EXTINGUISHER or normally DAPAT may radyo ang police car kase VERY CRITICAL yung situation hnd dpat sya umalis sa scene, I’m not saying na magbuwis buhay sya but hinde na BAGO ang traffic accident sa pilipinas we expect by now dpat trained na sila in this kind of situation (not blaming anyone).
Secondly, i suggest dapat itaas ang standard ng pagkuha ng license sa pilipinas because not everyone can drive at kapag WALANG LICENSE make sure na proper punishment so yung mga minors eh matakot silang gumawa ng mali.
For those who bash the people who took this picture, wala ho silang kasalanan, I myself would not have the guts to help kase just seeing a burning car is very traumatic itself and the risk of danger is very high. However, my heart goes to the family and loved ones of the involved minor here. Deepest sympathy and condolences.
