The first case of the 2019 novel coronavirus in the Philippines was confirmed last January 30. On February 7 the Department of Health released the news that the patient was recovering and tested negative for the disease.

In a press briefing Health Department spokesperson Eric Domingo stated: “The patient is still stable. No symptoms. Our reports indicate that the last test niya done on…February 6, I think ‘yung latest niya was negative already.”
However, Domingo clarified that as of speaking the patient was considered a confirmed case. “But we already sent sample for the second test kasi we need two consecutive tests to be negative before we discharge the patient,” he explained.
The patient in question is a 38-year old woman who traveled to the Philippines from Wuhan, China on January 21. Her partner, a 44-year old male, also contracted the disease and is the first recorded fatality in the Philippines.
The Department of Health continues to remind and urge the public to practice proper hygiene, handwashing, and proper coughing etiquette.
