Philippine Volcanoes Cops Silver in Asian Men’s Rugby 7’s Tournament

Our Philippine Volcanoes just keeps on erupting! But don’t fret, I’m not talking about real volcanoes lol. Our Philippine Men’s Rugby Team has beaten powerhouse Team China en route to the Finals of the Asian Men’s Rugby 7’s Tournament held at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia! Final score is 19-14.

Philippine Volcanoes team win

The Philippine team grabbed the silver medal on the said tournament (Japan won the gold). Philippines now ranks no. 7 in Asia! That’s huge for a rookie team! The win also secured them a spot in the world-renowned Hongkong Rugby’s 7’s Tournament in March 2012. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire! Hoo-hah!

“We had set a goal of reaching the last four in the tournament . We have now set a few records. We beat China for the first time and by entering the final we have put Philippine rugby on the map. Finishing second to a team like Japan is an honor. It is way beyond our expectations.” said Philippine Volcanoes coach Mat Cullen.
