When In Manila, I am loud and proud that this Designer is definitely 100% Filipino.
Kermit Tesoro graced this season’s Philippine Fashion Week with his 2011 Holiday collection. He took the industry by storm at a very young age. Determined, creative and highly capable of–not just designing–but executing art.
Let me tell you about his shoes first. He is not a shoe designer, though he does not underestimate his shoe designs. He says: “My shoe designs are only a punctuation mark on every clothing that I design.”
These designs were a mixture of his creativity, engineering, craftsmanship and genius-ness.
When he was asked about the wearability of the shoes he replied: “Wearability is out of the question. If you love a shoe enough, you’ll find a way to wear them.” & indeed his designs are worn by many celebrities. Divine Lee has been spotted in his shoes in a lot of events. & in his most latest victory, his shoes made it to a campaign of LADY GAGA x Gilt none the less! He was even commissioned by Lady Gaga’s styling team to bring in clothes for events such as the MTV movie awards and Gaga’s new album. For this, I congratulate thee.
I have not even tackled his clothes yet!
Tight silhouettes, short hems, leather and jersey fabrics. It was breath taking. & have I mentioned the print on his dresses are all cuts? Meaning, they are different fabrics cut in different shapes and sewn together. They are not PRINTED on! I wonder how long it took to make one piece!
Fabric does not limit his textile. I do not even know what materials he used that was feasible enough for his designs. But I loved those bodices!
Yes, he looks like a high school student. Do not underestimate 😉
& he graduated in my school, School of Fashion and the Arts.
When In Manila be sure to check out Kermit Tesoro rule the runways of the next seasons to come!
