Philippine cinema is on a roll. After the many Filipino films that were recently screened and awarded in international film festivals, another film joins their esteemed ranks.
Louie Ignacio’s Area was recently awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Eurasian International Film Festival.
Area stars Ai-Ai delas Alas and Allen Dizon, and tells the story of a prostitute whose life savings are stolen during Holy Week.
The Eurasian International Film Festival is organized by the National Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences (under the Ministry of Culture and Sports), and aims to “bring together artists from all over the world…establish a fruitful dialogue of culture [and] expand spiritual links with foreign countries.”
The 12th run of the festival was held from September 24 to 30 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
