Paulo Avelino has taken to Twitter to defend his fellow actor, Jake Cuenca, amid news of him being involved in a high-speed car chase with police officers on Sunday, October 10.
Allegedly, Jake had bumped a police vehicle with his SUV and fled the scene. He was later arrested after finally being caught by authorities. The 33-year-old actor claimed to have kept driving away because he did not know whether the people chasing him were police or just civilians.
The news of his arrest went viral online which prompted Paulo to speak up about it.
“I wouldn’t stop for anyone shooting my vehicle wearing civilian clothes. Pass through a checkpoint? Hinarang ba? (Did they stop him from passing through?) If someone was shooting me it’s either I shoot back or run for my life. Wrong place wrong time,” he wrote in a tweet.
“Mauna sa balita bida ngayon. (To know better than the news is prevalent today.) GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND KNOW THE TRUTH BEFORE YOU POST.”
He also responded to the claim that Jake had reportedly rammed his car on the police vehicle and kept going.
“Ma’am wag po tayo mag marunong. Wala pong tama sasakyan niya. Kung may nasagi man gulong niya malang dahil kita naman po sa mga picture lampas ng sasakyan. Yung complainant po private vehicle ng pulis na ginamit sa operation. Uulitin ko po, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT,” he said.
(“Ma’am please don’t get ahead of yourself. The vehicle had no bump. If he did hit the vehicle, it’s just the wheels that did because you can see in the picture that the car is tall. The complainant is a police officer who used their private vehicle during their anti-narcotics operation. I will repeat, get your facts straight.”)
A Grab driver was also affected by the car chase after getting hit by a stray bullet from the police. He is currently in stable condition at a nearby hospital.
