On April 30, the 4th Year BS Entrepreneurship students from Miriam College hosted “Paraluman: Pagpupugay sa Pamana ng Sining at Tradisyon,” a celebration of Filipino heritage, arts, and crafts at the Miriam College Henry Sy, Sr. Innovation Center. The event celebrated Filipino art and tradition by showcasing new perspectives from students and Filipino fashion designers.
The event began with an exhibit of handmade accessories and pottery created by the students. This part highlighted the students’ creative takes on traditional craftsmanship, fusing everyday functionality with Filipino culture. The main highlight of the event was the fashion show, which showcased the evolution of traditional Filipino clothing through three themed segments: Kahapon (Yesterday), Ngayon (Today), and Bukas (Tomorrow).
The Kahapon segment featured classic Filipiniana pieces by designer Cheetah Rivera, highlighting traditional styles and native patterns. Ngayon presented a creative take on the baro’t saya and barong by Daryl Maat, using his popular “pad paper” design to reflect modern and youthful ideas. The final segment, Bukas, looked to the future of Filipino fashion with RUBIO’s forward-thinking designs, combining tradition with innovation.
“Paraluman” was not just a celebration of Filipino identity and culture, but also a platform for emerging talent to bridge the past, present, and future of Filipino arts. The event served as a testament to the lasting beauty of Philippine heritage and the possibility of evolving while staying grounded in tradition.
