Have you been wanting to try a new hobby, or do you just want to learn a new skill? You’ve got to check out Oh Craft, a new art studio in Marikina that offers rug tufting workshops.
In case you aren’t familiar with rug tufting, it’s creating a velvet-like rug that uses a canvas, some yarn, and a tufting gun. If you scroll around on TikTok, then you’ve already probably seen a few international creators creating their own colorful rugs at home through rug tufting. It’s quite therapeutic to watch!
Thanks to Oh Craft in Marikina, you get the chance to try it, too.
The studio was created by Teejay Jamlang who got into rug tufting during the pandemic. He explored this new craft in the small space of his room but decided to open up a studio so that he could explore and enjoy it even more.
Then, he opened the studio to the public so that anyone and everyone could try rug tufting as well.
The Oh Craft studio is spacious enough for you to enjoy a rug tufting workshop with your whole barkada.

When you sign up for a workshop, you get your own workstation and a frame with a canvas, and the studio will provide your tufting gun and all the colorful yarn you need.
During my workshop, I have to admit that I was pretty intimidated and nervous about trying rug tufting for the first time—mostly because I was scared my finished product wouldn’t look good. But apparently, rug tufting is the perfect example of “trusting the process”.
My workshop started with a quick introduction from the studio staff. They showed me how the tufting gun works, how to handle the equipment safely, and how to begin tufting. We even had a few practice runs on a canvas so that I’d feel more confident with creating my own.
It’s also important to note that they are super beginner-friendly. When I chose the design I initially wanted to do, they even suggested an easier design that’s more suited for first-timers. And I’m glad they did because my rug turned out great and I got to finish it in around 4-5 hours.
Their studio staff were also always ready to help when assistance is needed; they are even ready to continue your work for a while when you get exhausted.
The whole rug tufting experience is definitely beginner-friendly. Of course, there was a lot of learning and errors at the start of the workshop, but once I got the hang of it, it became easier and easier.
It was such a delight to see my progress now and then. And finally, when my rug was done, I was so happy to see how the design I chose was turned into a soft and fluffy rug.
The experience was tiring, yes, but it was worth it. I felt super proud to have something I created with my own hands. Plus, I was glad at how great my rug turned out!
After tufting my rug, it was then cut out of the frame and glued in the back to make sure it stayed together. If in case you run out of time while creating your rug, you can also leave it with them and ask them to finish it for you (at an additional fee) and have your rug delivered to your home.
I also loved how cozy and chill the studio is. You can bring food and drinks to enjoy during the workshop, and they even welcome pets!
Rug tufting is worth the try—whether you want to do it solo, with a loved one, or with your whole barkada. Not only would you be able to try an entirely new skill, but you also get to take home a cool souvenir.
Thanks to Oh Craft, rug tufting just became more accessible, more fun, and a lot easier for all.
