New ‘The Matrix’ Film Has Cast Its Lead

Good news, The Matrix fans! A new installment to the sci-fi classic by the Wachowski sisters is coming, and Black Panther actor Michael B. Jordan has been cast as its lead. According to reports, Warner Bros. is developing a new film for the franchise, and the Wachowskis are once again spearheading it, while The Incredible Hulk writer Zak Penn is penning the script.

It seems like the production team is still keeping a tight lid on the project, though, as it’s still not clear if the new film is a sequel, spin-off, or reboot.

Fans have been speculating if Keanu Reeves would be reprising his role as Neo, but there’s no news on that. Keanu did express during his John Wick 3 promotions in May that returning to The Matrix would be “a gift”. Other fans, however, have been speculating if Michael B. Jordan’s character is going to be a reboot version of Reeves’ Neo.

Everything is still up in the air, but production might start in early 2020. It has been 20 years since the release of the first The Matrix film in 1999.
